I. Overview
Every liturgical calendar year, in the Roman Rite
of the Catholic Church, the last
Sunday of Ordinary Time is observed as the Solemnity
of Christ, commonly known
as the Feast of Christ the King, to mark the true
kingship of Christ.
With Christ the King as patron of CKC, the celebration
of the feast is a permanent
fixture in the school’s calendar year –
emphasising the true ‘kingship of Cobians’.
II. The Event
The Kings’ Banquet, a fundraiser gala-dinner
event herein proposed, will be an
additional event to the celebration of the Feast
of Christ the King. It aims to
combine the celebratory mood of Kings’ Week
with a glamorous atmosphere to
raise funds for development projects aimed at transforming
the school.
Recognising the significance of COBA Reunion Night,
held on the Friday ending the
King’s Week celebrations, as an amity event,
the King’s Banquet is intended to
serve as a pan-COBA red-carpet event bringing Cobians
and guests together in a
glamorous atmosphere to feast and chinwag, fund-raise
on specific issues and
applaud the outstanding contributions of Cobians
as well as sponsors of the school.
The King’s Banquet will be held annually on
the last Saturday commencing
Kings’ Week.
As a calendar event, The Kings’ Banquet will
aim to achieve the following:
o Raise funds to support earmarked development projects
for the school.
o Applaud the valuable contributions and support
of deserving Cobians as well as
sponsors through Recognition Awards; and
o Kick-start Kings’ Week in classic style
– emphasizing the Kingship of Cobians.
Venue
Desiring to annually throw a grand event that is
befitting of Kings and attracting
the crème de la crème of the Sierra
Leone society, the Kings’ Banquet will be
held
in Freetown.
Theme
The Kings’ Banquet will be a black-tie event
organised alongside an annually
selected theme, bringing people with a common interest
together and creating a
glamorous atmosphere as well as a culinary experience
for guests that is out of
the ordinary.
Hospitality
As banquets are all about the food and drinks, a
lot of thought will be put into the
hospitality for the evening – providing an
ultimate culinary and guest experience.
The Menu for the Kings’ Banquet will feature
a three-course meal – a starter, a
main course and a dessert. Equally, a variety of
high-end drinks will adorn every
table.
VVIP guests, will have the option to RSVP with their
menu and drink choices in
advance of the event.
Dress Code
The dress code for the Kings’ Banquet will
be a smart dress code, ‘black tie’ for
gents and evening dress for ladies, allowing guests
to go all out on their attire
but maintaining a formal feel.
Banquet guests will be encouraged to adhere to a
strict dress code as it will
heighten the overall atmosphere and experience of
the event.
Guest List
Having in mind, the intention to emit a sense of
glamour and to fund-raise,
attendance of the Kings’ Banquet will be fee-based
and will include an arranged
seating system.
III. The Planning
The Kings’ Banquet is designed as a pan-COBA
event, committing all
COBA branches to the planning and execution of the
event for a grand success.
A Kings’ Banquet Committee (KBC) comprising
members appointed from
within the COBA branches will be charged with the
responsibility of planning and
executing the event annually.
A report of the Committee – featuring the
proceeds of the event - will be a vital
part of the Annual General Meeting.
IV. Partnerships & Sponsorships
With the intention to make the Kings’ Banquet
a grand annual event, it will seek
cooperate partnerships and sponsorship of good faith
to make the event
successful.
